Farm-Style Standout

SSDB Custom Home Builders Chicago Farm Style Standout

Natural elements are the centerpiece of this new construction’s thoughtful design and unique details by SSDB custom home builders Chicago. Set on a standard lot in Northbrook, IL, this 4-bedroom house makes the most out of its 2,900 square feet. This was accomplished by working with beautiful, natural materials. Thoughtful details include high windows that allow for both natural light and privacy, 9-foot ceilings in the basement, and a reclaimed wood beam arch separating the family room from the kitchen. The house’s exterior is noteworthy as well, with copper gutters, wide-planked white siding, and a welcoming front porch.

But the true star is in the backyard.

SSDB Custom Home Builders Chicago: Rain Garden Addition

We were able to make this house very special (and very green) by adding the first village-approved rain garden in Northbrook. Rain gardens use vegetation, soils, and other elements to restore some of the natural processes required to manage water and create a healthier environment. We installed a 5,000-gallon sub-ground retention system to diminish a load of a large rain event on the property and the Northbrook municipal system. In addition, it would retain water for the homeowner that can then be used for irrigation on the property. Watch the rain garden video.

From the Homeowner

"We may be the only homeowners to say, 'we miss working with our builders every day.' We made such a great choice with SSB and absolutely love our home 3 years after moving in. Scott and TK are truly conscientious builders who strive for quality. There is no detail too small as evidenced by our unique London maid’s brass pull-bell that is a hit with every one who comes to the door. Amy was instrumental in designing our kitchen and Kathleen was the glue of the team. They were always available to keep us on track. We are very pleased with our home and plan to enjoy it for many years to come. I’ve heard you buy right or buy twice. Glad we did it right the first time."
