We are a small, family-owned company, and we've found that's what works best for us and for our clients. With our small and extremely talented crew we are able to keep tabs on all of our projects and maintain our signature high quality craftsmanship. When you work with Scott Simpson Builders you're going to see the same guys at your house everyday. You’re going to meet and work directly with owners, Scott and Tom. In turn, we'll know your name, your kids' names, and give your dog a belly rub when we have a spare minute.

Our Mission: Innovation in construction management that leads to highly productive construction operations in order to guarantee quality, compress construction schedules, control budgets, and maintain morale.

Scott Simpson: I'm the guy whose name is on the sign. I started this business after years of being a carpenter because I love watching a home evolve from blueprint to reality and because I like being in charge! I also like to think that being self-employed offers me more control over my destiny, but I may be just fooling myself. I've spent most of my life in the Chicago area, growing up in Northbrook, attending Glenbrook North and Loyola Academy and graduating from Loyola University. I like to think that my psychology degree taught me a thing or two about human behavior, and when you're demolishing a homeowner's living room wall, good people skills come in handy! I married Stacy in 1988 and we have been blessed with two awesome daughters. When I'm not building, I enjoy time with my family and two dogs, running, bicycling, welding, reading, discussing (or debating) political issues and roaming the countryside of southern Wisconsin. I admire people who challenge themselves, challenge nature, and challenge mediocrity and the norm.

Thomas "T.K." Kenny: Thomas "T.K." Kenny: I got my first taste of the construction industry selling building materials at Evanston Lumber during my summers off from Marquette University. After earning my English degree (and minoring in Theology), I returned to Evanston, but instead of getting a job in building materials sales, I chose to pursue a career in carpentry and construction management because I prefer to swing a hammer.

I joined Scott Simpson Builders in  1998, and am proud to have been a part of so many excellent projects. In my early days with SSB, I spent most of my time with a hammer in my hand, doing everything from framing a house to crafting the staircase and hanging the front door. Through the years I moved into more of a management role, visiting each project several times a day to make sure the work is being done correctly and in good time. I am lucky in that I love my work. Almost nothing in the world makes me happier than to build a really beautiful home for a family that appreciates fine craftsmanship and unique, quality materials.

While I do love my work, I love to hang out with my family even more. My wife, Jenny, and I live in Northbrook with our daughter and son. Most nights I make it home in time to help with our two giggly kids in the tub. It's the highlight of my day.

Bryan Hodel: I joined the Scott Simpson Builders family in 1999, after obtaining my Construction Management degree from Illinois State University.  Heeding a desire to be a more proficient carpenter, I came to this company as just that, …a carpenter.  All these years later, and I’m still here.  These days I’m a manager, and also operate our maintenance group division, but I can still be seen with the tool belt on, doing what all of us here love best, …quality building.  After my marriage to Lauren in 2001 I joined the United States Army and served for three years in the 82nd Airborne Division, including a one-year tour in Iraq.  I am driven by the love of the construction process, and a life decision to do what I love, and love what I do.  This not only includes building, but studying history, reading, camping, travel, and spending time with my family and pets (several dogs and cats). What I enjoy the most about being a member of this team, is that it is filled with people who are professionals, dedicated to the craft of specialty carpentry, and committed to seeing that their customers are 100% satisfied when their project is completed.  The Scott Simpson family attitude, and the level of teamwork between our clients, architects, fellow contractors, and us makes the building process a fun experience, and that is what it should all be about.

Kathleen Henrikson: I’m the one in the office.  I’m new here, compared to everyone else.  But I’ve known Scott, Stacy and TK for a while and I love my job.  I’m married to my wonderful husband, Jay and I have two awesome kids. I like drinking pina coladas and getting caught in the rain. (not really, I prefer cold beer on a sunny day).  I was born and raised in Northbrook, went to College at the University of Colorado, then came home and pursued a career in flying.  I stopped flying as a career in 2000 because I realized that being grounded with family and friends was more fun than flying 500 mph at 35,000 feet.  That’s why I love Scott Simpson Builders.  They love what they do and they’re great at it, but they also realize the importance of family and friends and having fun.

Stacy Hetherington Simpson: Scott and I have been married partners for 20 years and business partners for 12 of those years. I joined the business after I hung up my pastry chef apron and was expecting our youngest daughter. After many years of doing the daily administrative work, I now concentrate on our relationships: with one another in the SSB family, the architects and homeowners we have the good fortune to work with, our subcontractors and with the North Shore communities in which we work. Scott and I are really lucky that we can work together on both the raising of our daughters and raising the business from infancy to adulthood. I’m also very grateful to have a job that allows me the flexibility to be involved in the kid’s schools and activities and home at the end of the school day. My background: I grew up in Wilmette and went to New Trier East, got an advertising degree from Syracuse University and have worked as an advertising account manager, a pastry chef, a retail store manager, wedding cake decorator and mail order director. I’ve worn a lot of hats and each one somehow contributes to the running of a small business!
